Midnight in the Gigafactory

Inspired by Splinter Cell and Amon Tobin, this minute animation kicks the tires of some new features in UE5. Even though this project is not required to be real-time, it is optimized with low poly models and level instancing to accommodate my aging RTX. In three clips we sneak into a fictitious Gigafatory exploring light, shadow, and color with Lumen and Substrate. The compositions began 100% black and lighting was added to define shapes and spaces. The car chassis are made by splitting Epic´s City Sample Vehicles into parts with UE5´s modelling tools. The catwalk is a combination of Megascan´s modular pipes with custom elements made with Maya and Substance Painter.

I made the containers with Maya, Zbrush and Substance Painter. They share normal and roughness maps but have unique albeidos and custom decals. They are low poly models that perform well instanced in Packed Level Blueprints.

Concrete assets use a material from Epic´s Hillside Sample. I made the robot arm with May, ZBrush and Substance Painter.

The illuminated arcs are similar to the ones used in the car showroom of the Tesla Gigafactory in Berlin. Emissive effects worked well for reflections but since they do not emit light, additional lights were added.
